Body and Organ Systems
Exploring Body Systems Across Animals
These resources give students an engaging overview of how animals’ bodies are structured and how their organ systems work together to support life.
From insects’ nerve cords and ganglia to mammals’ cardiovascular, digestive, and musculoskeletal systems, students compare different animal groups and explore adaptations that help each survive in its environment.
By examining a range of species and families, students build a strong understanding of anatomy, physiology, and adaptation, while strengthening scientific vocabulary and critical thinking skills.
🧩 What students will learn
- Understand the main body systems in animals, including nervous, circulatory, cardiovascular, digestive, endocrine, and musculoskeletal systems
- Learn how these systems function to transport nutrients, remove waste, coordinate actions, and enable movement
- Explore the structure of nervous systems in insects and compare them with vertebrates
- Investigate adaptations across different animal groups and families that support feeding, movement, and survival
- Develop scientific vocabulary to describe anatomy, organ systems, and physiological processes
✅ Recommended Learning Levels
Activities are suitable for Years 7–8 and can be adapted for depth or complexity depending on student knowledge.
