Follow the Birds: Travelling the Globe 🌏🐦
Birds don’t recognise borders, and neither do diseases. Students investigate the movements of migratory birds and explore how bird flu can travel between populations and across countries. Using maps, students trace possible pathways and investigate how migration, wetlands, poultry, trade and human activity can all influence the movement of disease.
- Choose a migratory bird: Students select a migratory bird and find out where it travels during its migration.
- Map the journey: On a world map, students trace the bird’s migration route between countries.
- Follow the risks: Students investigate how wetlands, food availability, poultry, trade and human activity could affect the movement of disease.
- Add the connections: Students mark possible points where birds, people, animals or environments could contribute to disease spreading.
- Tell the story: Students use their map to explain how a disease such as bird flu could potentially move between bird populations and across countries.

What If the Internet Disappeared? 🌏📵
- Set the scenario: Imagine the internet disappears from your community for one month.
- List the impacts: Students identify what would change at school, at home and in the community.
- Find alternatives: For each problem, students develop a non-digital solution.
- Compare: Which problems are easy to solve? Which are much harder?
- Discuss access: What happens when people don’t have reliable internet access in the first place? Who might be most affected?
